Support
the Attleboro Area Council For Children... DONATIONS....The lifeblood of every non-profit. If you've got this far in the process, you probably already know a little bit about the Council for Children. You probably know that we are a community-centered organization, so the money you give to us stays local. Our programs are run by volunteers and most of our volunteers have been with us for over 5 years, many have been with us for more than 10 years! You may also already know that our Christmas is for KidsTM program that began in 1983 helps over 1,000 children each year, but did you know that the parents of those children come to classes to reinforce budgeting, job search skills and parenting skills? We want to help parents learn to help themselves because we believe that if the parents can model good financial behavior, the children will learn from their example. You may have seen articles about our Bears on Board program, where new teddy bears are given to local emergency personnel to give to children in crisis situations. We've collected over 6,000 bears since the inception of the program in 1993. We find simple solutions to what can be complex issues and implement them without help from the state or federal government. This is the definition of a "grass-roots" organization. But did you know that our operating expenses are less than 10% of our gross income? That means that we are very efficient with the money that is given to us, making sure that as much as possible is available for programs and services for the children in our area. Hopes, dreams and wishes....Every year we look for vacant space in our community to set up the Christmas is for KidsTM program. Our dream is to have permanent space so that we can be in one place each year, making it a bit simpler to set up and making it easier for those people we help to find us. A building would also give us room for on-going financial education classes for people who need help understanding basic finances. We'd plan to have a space for performance/programming as well as an art gallery, and maybe even cooking/sewing/craft classes. A computer cluster would be important as well as meeting and storage space. Of course, we'd need some room outside for play equipment! So now it's time for you to PUSH THAT BUTTON!
